Doctors and Experts from Chongqing Sharing "Chinese Experiences" Against COVID-19 with Hungary

A video conference between China (Chongqing) and Hungary’s COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention and Control was held in Hungary Consulate-General in Chongqing on April 1. Chongqing disease control experts and doctors shared the “Chinese experiences” of the prevention, clinical diagnosis, and treatment with Hungarian medical experts. As of March 30, there are 447 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hungary, 15 deaths, and 34 discharged from hospital. Although the number of confirmed cases is not much compared with the worst-hit areas in Europe, such as Italy, the Hungarian pandemic has developed rapidly. It took only more than a week to increase from 100 to 400.How does the definition of Chinese cases change at different stages of the epidemic? How to care for patients with mild and severe symptoms? Is the viral load (quantitative PCR) at the beginning of a clinical disease related to the severity of the disease? Is convalescent serum treatment effective in critical patients? During more than an hour of discussions and exchanges, doctors and experts with first-line clinical treatment experiences in Chongqing answered more than ten questions that Hungarians care about. Dióssi Lóránd, Consul General of Hungary in Chongqing, and Tang Wen, Deputy Director of the Chongqing Foreign & Overseas Affairs Office, had delivered short opening remarks for the panel discussion webinar.COVID-19 pandemic Prevention and Control was held in Hungary Consulate-General in ChongqingExperts from Chongqing Municipal Health Committee shared experiences of prevention and control. The main measures they use are “early 4”: early detection, early diagnosis, rapid isolation, and early treatment. According to Mr. Wang Daoxin, Chief Physician, Respiratory Department, Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, introduce how they treat COVID-19 patients. In Chongqing, the newly diagnosed COVID-19 is concentrated in 4 hospitals with good conditions and negative pressure rooms, and the patients are divided into mild and severe symptoms. The severe cases will be transferred to the ICU. They are treated by doctors and nurses with experience. Particularly critical cases are arranged by three-level experts for one-to-one management. Each day, they discuss the condition in multiple disciplines and formulate treatment plans (including oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, prone position, fluid management, nutrition, ECMO, reasonable antibacterials, rehabilitation, etc.). For the mild cases, the treatment is mainly symptomatic, supplementary nutrition, antiviral therapy, treatment of underlying diseases, prevention, and early recognition of exacerbations.Experts from Chongqing Municipal Health Committee shared experiences of prevention and control.Mr. Hu Yufeng and Mr. Wang Yu from the Chongqing Municipal Health Committee had shared the procedure of patient isolation. “In the design of the treatment process for patients with COVID-19, there are two principles that should be paid attention to first, pay attention to the reasonable shunting of patients, detect suspicious cases early, and separate ordinary fever patients from suspected patients, and reduces cross-infection. Second, for the treatment of confirmed patients, the most powerful medical forces and medical institutions will be arranged for medical treatment in accordance with the principle of “concentrating patients, experts, resources, and treatment.”Demonstrated from Mr. Tang Wen, he hopes that Chongqing and Hungary’s friendship will be stronger and the collaboration will be strengthened in the very near future. Both China and Hungary will win the COVID-19 battle soon.
